a cup of barista stories
I was really excited to get to sit down with Ryan, I’ve seen him throughout the past year I’ve been back and I really enjoyed the TNT competition he hosted at Oaklawn coffee a few months ago.
How long have you been a barista? 1 1/2 years.
Why? I love the community, inviting people into good coffee, serve a drink they could not get very often before.
How did you start owning your own shop?
I was finishing Ph.d in anthropology at SMU, I worked at a shop in Austin in Grad school, I then took over a shop here.
Where did you work in Austin? Progress Coffee
Why do you continue? Community built around being the shop in a community, knowing people.
How have you seen change in the coffee community? more people are trying to do coffee in the past year, willingness to get out and learn more from others, more and more collaboration, you can ask questions, how do you pour that? People are less guarded.
