a cup of Barista Nation

November 12, 2012

The Barista Nation Texas event was an incredible success. Baristas came from all over the area including New Mexico and Oklahoma to learn from and spend time with others like them. There were some awesome speakers, a farmer from Panama and I was able to start my Barista Stories Project here. We were very grateful to Tom Vincent of Texas Coffee School who helped bring it here to Dallas, and Shannon Neffendorf who hosted the event at his new location for Oak Cliff Coffee. It is a beautiful building and I can’t wait to see the finished project. Garold from AVOCA coffee did a particularly interesting segment on Specialty Drinks and let us drink some of his coffee concoctions. I really benefited from Lorenzo Perkin’s of Cuvee Coffee’s speech on Barista Competitions, as I am planning to go again next year. The evening was finished with Cane Rosso pizza and an intense latte art competition as well as Deep Ellum Brewery’s Beer. What a great chance to see how big and diverse our Specialty Coffee scene is becoming, I am very proud to be a part of it.

{Also, look for a fuller write up, by me, in Barista Magazine’s next edition}
