a cup of tnt

August 13, 2012

Zenzero bakery hosted a great TNT latte art throw down this month. They recently opened in Coppell. While the pastries look delicious the coffee set up looks like it will be hard to beat. The La Marzoco Strada is incredible and they’ve done a good job of setting up the coffee area and are using Oakcliff Coffee Roasters from Dallas. The barista will be the first person you see as you walk in which emphasizes the important role of coffee in this bakery. Ryan, who I met while drinking his delicious cortados at Oddfellows, is now heading up the program at Zenzero.

There were new and old faces as we gathered and caught up from the past month. While Aldi ran the judges through the criteria for a winning latte art. The art must be centered, fill the cup and face the judges perpendicular to the handle. He also explained the differences between a tulip, a heart and a rosetta. That is the order the baristas would pour the designs for each of the rounds. It was nice to know what to expect instead of the pick of the draw as last month but gave the competition needed structure.

It was a fun and rousing competition, with some new faces, and was soundly won by Jonathan Meadows of Cultivar! Congratulations!
